Senator Gordon H. Smith served two terms as a U.S. Senator from Oregon serving on the Senate Commerce committee and Chairman of the Senate High Tech Task Force. Smith joined the NAB in November 2009 as President & CEO where he led NAB’s advocacy efforts on Capitol Hill and the FCC including the voluntary spectrum auction and preserving retransmission consent. He has also overseen the successful effort to block a record label-backed effort to impose a performance fee on local radio stations. Broadcast industry executives credit Smith’s leadership with improving NAB’s lobbying clout and influence and has consistently ranked among Washington’s top lobbyists.
