Gary Bettman
National Hockey League

Gary Bettman has served the National Hockey League since 1993 and is the longest-tenured commissioner in pro sports. He has led the League’s extraordinary growth, with annual attendance surpassing 23 million and annual revenues increasing from $400 million to over $4.5 billion.

Of Commissioner Bettman’s many achievements, some of his most noteworthy have involved increasing the League’s audience. Long-term, multi-billion-dollar national broadcast rights agreements in the U.S. (NBC Sports) and Canada (Rogers Communications), plus an innovative digital rights agreement with Major League Baseball Advanced Media, have broadened the NHL’s reach while fostering League-wide economic stability and an exponential increase in franchise values.
